Materials Needed

  1.  Screwdriver Set
  2.  Isopropyl alcoholcotton buds, and soft cloth
  3.  Alcohol wipes (optional for easier cleaning)
  4.  Toothbrush
  5.  Warm soapy water in a small container
  6.  Repair Mat (optional)

Step 1

Disassemble the Controller:

Remove the 6 Phillips screws from the back of the controller, set aside.
Flip the controller over and carefully lift the top shell.
Remove bumpers and the metal pins holding them in place (pay attention to the metal pins position for reassembly, take a picture if required); set these aside.
Set the other buttons and their rubber pads aside (3 rubber pads, 1 directional button, 3 small buttons, 2 small pieces for the top bumpers).
Caution: Take care when handling the board - avoid apply excessive force.

Lift the board out of the remaining shell - set the shell aside.
Unplug the cord from the board by gently prying it loose.

Step 2

Inspect Components:

Examine the rubber pads for tears or excessive wear.
Inspect the circuit board for signs of corrosion, leakage, or damage.
Check for residue or dirt on the casing.

Step 3

Clean the Plastic Parts:

Soak the casing, buttons, and rubber pads in warm, soapy water. Alternatively, begin cleaning the parts with alcohol wipes.
Use a toothbrush to gently scrub dirt and grime, especially in crevices and black contacts on the back of the rubber pads.
Rinse and let the parts air dry completely.

Step 4

Clean the Circuit Board:

Use cotton buds dipped in isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the black contacts.
You can use an air duster to remove any dust from the rest of the board or components
Avoid excessive scrubbing to prevent removing the protective finish.
Clean the expansion port with a toothbrush and alcohol, or use contact cleaner.

Step 5

Reassemble the Controller:

Ensure all parts are dry before starting reassembly.
Insert buttons into the front shell, aligning notches with their respective slots, pay attention to the B button, it fits in the middle of the 3 bash buttons.
Place rubber pads on top of the buttons with the black spots facing up, 2 for the top bumpers, 1 for the bash buttons, 1 for the directional pads and 1 for the start and select buttons.
Reattach bumpers and metal pins, ensuring proper alignment.
Reconnect the detachable cord to the circuit board, ensuring it's the correct way round.
Position the circuit board into the shell, routing the cable through its designated channel and the board sits into the plastic posts.
Place the back shell into place, flip the controller over whilst holding it all together and test the buttons feel correct, once happy, screw the 6 Phillips screws securely in place.

Step 6

Final Testing:

Plug your controller into your 3DO and power up.
Select a game and test all the buttons to ensure functionality.
You're all done, enjoy your refreshed 3DO controllers.
